PostSubject: Introduction to Paganism   4/5/2009, 15:25

Paganism is an umbrella term for nature based religions. These are religions/paths that see the divine in all of nature and they work with nature. Included in paganism is: Wicca/Witchcraft, Shamanism, and Druidism.

Magick is defined as: a focus in will to create change. Magick is neither black or white, Its the intention of the witch that colours the magick, ie magick is like electricity, in that electricity can be used to light a room or power an electric chair. If the intention is to heal then thats white, If the intention is to hurt/harm then its black.

Two words that set people of as well is Personal Gain. I personally feel its okay to work for personal gain, because, If our physical/material needs are met, we are generally happier and this vibes helps uplift others around us, and when our needs are sorted, we can then devote more time etc to helping others. Most witches when working for personal gain will do an act of kindness in return, such as donate to charity, maybe clear litter from a wood/beach, etc

Lastly Wicca is a part of paganism, as catholicism is to christianity. Wiccans belief that the divine is nature around them, and they also work with the lord and lady as personifications of the divine male and female aspects. The lord and lady can be any of the dieties from ancient cultures or like earth mother and sky father, Sun god and moon goddess.

Wiccans work with nature and have their wheel of the year, which consists of eigth main festivals. Wiccans also have coven meets or work ritual on the full moon.

The wiccans have two main rules. 1 is the wiccan rede 'and it harm none, do what thy will.' which means as long as it doesnt harm another you can do what you want. Controlling ones free-will is also called harm, and so for wiccans a direct love spell on someone is a definate no as you would be interfering in that person's free will. One point though is that is okay to break/bend the rede in regards to self-defense to stop more harm being caused for the greater good. If unsure whether to work or not, give the situation to the gods and let them sort it. The other is what is known as the threefold law of return. Whatever you send out comes back times three. Its their version of karma/cause and effect.

Lastly one of the definations of witch is 'walker between the worlds' which means a witch will do ritual to help with a situation, but they will aswell do work on the physical plane. So like if they were job seeking, they would cast a spell for a job and then back it up with job search.

Good post Magi Smile I come from a long line of Witches, although tend to call myself Pagan. I did 3 spells on Sunday's Full Blood/Harvest Moon and called upon my Witch ancesters and Goddess Isis.

Wiccan Rede:
Bide ye Wiccan laws ye must, in perfect love and perfect trust.
Live and let live, fairly take and fairly give.
Form the circle thrice about to keep all evil spirits out.
Soft of eye, light of touch, speak ye little, listen much.
Deosil go by the waxing moon, singing out ye Witches' Rune.
Widdershins go by the waning moon, chanting out the baneful rune.
When the Lady's moon is new, kiss your hand to her times two.
When the rippling waters flow, cast a stone and truth ye'll know.
When ye have and hold a need, harken not with others' greed.
With a fool no seasons spend, lest ye be counted as his friend.
Merry meet and merry part, bright the cheeks and warm the heart.
Mind ye threefold law ye should, three times bad and three times good.
When misfortune is anow, wear the star upon thy brow.
True in Love ye must ever be, lest thy love be false to thee.
In these eight words, the Wiccan Rede fulfill
"An' it harm none, do what thou wilt."
Love, Light and Blessings Mag xxx Namaste

Hiya Angie

At the moment the Wiccan circle is on hold, but I have created this space on forum for all of us that are interested in magick to share our thoughts, ideas, and ask advice from the more advanced and knowledgable amongst us. Very Happy
